Glenna Marie Fraser Withee

Glenna Marie (Fraser) Withee, 90, of Jackson, MI, died peacefully on Saturday morning, October 17, at Bethany Care Home & Hospice in Jackson. She was allowed to cut in line at the Pearly Gates to meet her Lord.

Glenna was born October 5, 1925, in Jackson, MI, the daughter of Glenn and Marie Fraser, the fourth of seven children. After graduating from St. Mary's High School in Jackson she briefly attended Nazareth College and Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo and the then-named Tri-State College in Angola, IN. There she met and married M. James Withee, with whom she had three children. After a short time the marriage sadly ended in divorce. Moving to Lansing, MI, Glenna was hired at Michigan State University where she continued to work for over 35 years, most of that time in University College (Case, Wilson, Wonders).

Outside work her time was focused on raising her two surviving sons, ensuring them a Catholic education and involvement in many activities in their youth. Upon retiring she especially enjoyed daily Mass at St. Casimir Church, Lansing, followed by coffee with "the Ladies". She also enjoyed annual trips with her sisters to Northern Michigan to enjoy the fall colors and read books aloud, which allowed plenty of opportunities for laughter. Another favorite activity was the Charismatic movement and their annual meetings typically held at Notre Dame University.

Although she feared flying, a favorite memory was attending the International Charismatic meeting in Ireland with the "side trip" to the Holy Land. She is survived by her two sons, David (Mary) of Suamico, WI, and Duncan (Son Hui) of Lacey, WA; two grandchildren, Andrew Withee and Anna Withee; and two sisters, Lala West and Fay Franstead. She was preceded in death by her infant son Douglas, her parents and her siblings Nancy, Bud, Barbara Jean and Jay.

The Mass of the Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, October 24, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Jackson, with Father Richard Eberle O.S.F.S. as the celebrant. An interment service will follow at St. John's Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Church on Saturday, from 9:00 a.m. until the Mass.

In remembrance of Glenna, please attend Mass this Sunday. Monetary donations may be made in her name to either Bethany Care Home, Arbor North Living Center or Catholic Charities. The family especially thanks the angels from Bethany Care Home, Arbor North Living Center and Great Lakes Caring, and to special friend Jeannette Lienhart for the loving care they all provided our Mother during this time.
