Varner, Gerald James Sr.

of Jackson, passed away at home on Friday, June 10, 2011 at the age of 69 years. He is survived by four children, Jerry Varner Jr., Amy (Ronnie) Johncox, Cyndee Varner, Jennifer (Matt) McCormick; 10 grandchildren; one sister, Rosie (Paul) Cook; one brother, Ben (Lorraine) Varner; brother-in-law, Frank Marriott. He was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Marriott.

Jerry was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam Era and was a police officer for the City of Jackson for many years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, traveling and was a Civil War buff.

Jerry is at the Desnoyer Funeral Home where a Prayer Service will be held on Friday at 10:00 AM followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church at 10:30 AM. Father James Shaver will be the celebrant. The interment will take place at St. John's Catholic Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the Desnoyer Funeral Home on Thursday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM. A Scripture Service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday at 6:30 PM.

Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
