went to be with the Lord and passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on Monday, August 4, 2014, after a long and courageous four year battle with cancer. He was born in Jackson, MI, June 28, 1944, to Vincent and Helen (Smith) Rogers who both preceded him in death. A graduate of East Jackson Community Schools, he attended DeVry Technical Institute in Chicago where he obtained his Certificate in Industrial Electronics prior to his employment at Gray Faraday in Tecumseh, MI. In 1965, he joined Sparton Electronics where he was a Prototype Technician in the Engineering Department for nearly ten years. He obtained an Associate Degree in Electronic Technology from Jackson Community College while employed with the Jackson County Intermediate School District where he coordinated the audio visual service department with local schools retiring after 30 years of service. He was a former Jackson Jaycees member and longtime East Jackson Lions Club member.
His loving and devoted wife of 19 years, Sandra J. (Liechti) survives as well as son, Christopher (Amy) Rogers and granddaughters Hailey and Emily Rogers; daughter, Nicole Rogers; brother Philip (Jewell) Rogers; in-laws Robert and Delores Liechti; sister-in-law Susan Adams and several nieces, nephews and his beloved dog, Mocha Jo. Preceded in death by his first wife, Judith L (Nowak), grandparents, aunts and uncles .
The family will receive friends at the Desnoyer Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 6 from 3–8 PM and at Trinity Lutheran Church on Thursday, August 7 from 10–11 AM with the funeral service at 11:00 AM. Cremation will take place after the funeral service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran School, Cascades Humane Society and the American Cancer Society.
The family would like to thank Allegiance Hospice for the compassionate care that they provided to Jerry.
Jerry will be greatly missed and dearly cherished by all who loved him.
