Was born on September 29th, 1926 in Jackson, MI to Bert and Veronica ( Daniel) Smith. She passed away on Tuesday, February 7, 2017, peacefully surrounded by her family, under the care of Great Lakes Hospice and special family friends, Nancy Osterberg and Marybeth Rudolph, at the age of 90 years. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years Leo E. Osterberg, mother Veronica (Daniel) Smith, father Bert Smith, brothers Robert Smith, Thomas Smith, and Gerald Smith. She is survived by sons, William Osterberg (Skip Osterberg), Bernard Osterberg (Darcy Osterberg), beloved grandchildren Melinda (Kevin) Stevens, Jason (Misty) Osterberg, and Jeff (Judy) Osterberg, great grandchildren Camille Stevens, Ryan Stevens, Charlie Stevens, Jillian Osterberg, Jarrett Osterberg and Jonathon Osterberg. Also surviving are brothers, Lawrence and George Smith and sister, Helene Marshall.

Frances graduated from Jackson High School and worked at Puddleford Mercantile where she met Leo. Leo and Fran went on to own and operate Leo's Trading Post in Pleasant Lake MI where the two of them eventually ran the post office located at the store. Fran went on to be the Assistant Post Master at the Pleasant Lake location. Fran was an excellent cook, had local favorites including her famous rice pudding, strawberry salad, neflas, and homemade macaroni and cheese. Fran was a devoted Catholic and belonged to the Catholic Daughters Society. Fran enjoyed ceramics, vacationing in Harrison, playing cards, going out to lunch with friends and, most of all, cooking and helping others.

The family will receive friends at the Desnoyer Funeral Home on Friday, February 10 from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM with Father James Shaver officiating. Interment will take place at Sts. Cornelius & Cyprian Catholic Cemetery, Bunkerhill.

Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society or Great Lakes Hospice.

Fran was a devoted wife, mother and grandma. She put her grandkids first at all times, allowing them to drive her Caprice Classic around the yard endlessly at a very young age.
