Eugene Leonard Maynard, 79, died Saturday, June 13, 2019 at the Ascension Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo, MI.

Gene is survived by his wife of 58 years, Judith Ann (Fobar) Maynard; his daughter and son in-law Elizabeth (Maynard) Sherman and Perry Sherman, his son and son in-law Kenneth Maynard and Brett Mullenbrock, son and daughter-in-law Chris Maynard and Vidya Hanu, son and daughter-in-law Jeffery Maynard and Deanna (Iaquinta) Maynard, 13 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren.
Born in Windsor, Canada and raised in Dearborn, MI, Gene was the son of Leo and Madeline (Fields) Maynard. At the time of his death, Gene was a resident of Jackson, MI.


A Graduate of Our Lady of Lourdes High School, River Rouge, MI, he continued his education at Wayne State Community College, where he studied photography and diesel mechanics.


A retired diesel mechanic, Gene had a love for the outdoors, including camping and hiking. He also enjoyed woodworking.
Gene was a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus. He was once an active member of the Boy Scouts of America, serving as an assistant scoutmaster with troop 1185 in Ecorse Michigan, a member of the Order of the Arrow, and on committees with the Three Rivers District of the National Boy Scouts organization.


Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, July 16 at Queen of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church at 10:30 AM with Father Timothy MacDonald as the Celebrant. Interment will take place at Albion Memorial Gardens, Albion, Michigan.


The family will receive friends at the Desnoyer Funeral Home on Monday, July 15 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. The family will also receive friends on Tuesday at the Church, before the Mass, from 10:00 to 10:30 AM.


Donations may be made in Gene's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
