Naraja, Elvira
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of my mother, Elvira Naraja, who left us on October 19, 2024 at the age of 66 after a beautifully lived life. Born on June 27, 1958 in Quezon City, Philippines and later emigrated to the United States. Full of love, laughter, and resilience, she touched the lives of all who knew her.
Elvira will be remembered by her son Elliott Osoteo; her brothers, Lito, Pol, and Steve Naraja of Manila, Philippines; cousin Marie of Jackson, MI; nieces Rosalee Justema of Brighton, MI and Rachel Marcucci of Farmington Hills, MI. She was preceded in death by her parents Pascual and Catalina Naraja; her sister Rebecca Beredo.
Elvira Naraja lived a fulfilling life — having pursued a profession as an elementary school teacher. Her passion for teaching gave her opportunities to impact the lives of students in Manila, New York City, Chicago, and finally here in Jackson, Michigan where she taught at St. Joseph Catholic School. One of her favorite activities was to go shopping — it led to her having a position at Kohl's department store until her retirement. If Elvira wasn't shopping or cooking Filipino food, she would be spending time with her family especially with her great-nephews and nieces as she was known to them as "Gr-auntie". Elvira was a devout Catholic who had a strong faith and was unwavering during any difficult time.
Elvira Naraja was a kind and generous soul, always putting others' needs before her own. Her genuineness and compassion extended to all those who knew her; she will be remembered for her unconditional love to those closest to her. A beloved mother, sister, aunt, gr-auntie, and friend that will be dearly missed.
According to her wishes, cremation has taken place. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, October 23, 2024 at 11:00 AM at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with Father Chas Canoy officiating.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the Church on Wednesday.
Contributions in Elvira's memory may be made to St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.
