Biek, Elizabeth M. "Liz"
Of Jackson, passed away on Saturday, July 30, 2022, at the age of 90 years. The world lost a bit of laughter, joy, silliness, faith and love. Liz, to those who knew and loved her, joins her late husband of 64 years, John and son, David. Born in Detroit on March 20, 1932, she went to elementary school in Detroit, high school at St. Basil Academy outside of Philadelphia and she attended University of Detroit Mercy College where she met the love of her life, John. They eventually settled in Jackson, after living in Cheyenne, WY and England where John proudly served in the United States Air Force. Besides being COO, of 769 Oakridge Drive, Liz generously volunteered her time in CCD, various Catholic organizations and at her children's schools. Liz was known for her always entertaining gatherings, love of family and friends, her pride in being both Ukrainian and a Detroiter (even being named Miss Ukraine for the city of Detroit) and mostly, her strong Catholic faith. As the world's premier pie maker, Liz was known for her renown lemon meringue, strawberry, and pecan pies. Many hours were spent around the kitchen table, enjoying her cooking and spending time together. She made each holiday, birthday, and celebration a warm and joyous event. Liz was preceded in death by her parents, William and Agnes Bilek and brother, Benjamin. She leaves behind her children, Lisa (Mike) Cavender, James, Neil (Julie), Ellen and Lori (Jeff). Along with 9 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, her nieces and nephews and their families and her friends. Mom, you were one-of-a-kind, and we know your love for us is endless. As you always said, "Kiss me, hug me and tell me you love me!"
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, August 3, 2022 at 10:30 AM at Queen of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church with Father Timothy MacDonald as the Celebrant. Interment will take place at St. John Catholic Cemetery.
The family will receive friends before the Mass at the Church on Wednesday from 10:00 to 10:30 AM.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to Careline Hospice or Legacy Assisted Living Center. To reflect Liz's love of animals, donations can also be made to Cascades Humane Society. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of both organizations for the wonderful care they provided.
Please continue to pray for Ukraine.
