Berkemeier (Konkel), Elizabeth Rose
passed away under the loving care of her family on Monday, December 22, 2014 at the age of 95 ½ years. Survived by Francis and his wife, Janet Berkemeier and their children, Monica, Franz, Gretchen, Andrea, Henry, and Geraldine; Mary Jo and (Doug deceased) Macklin and her children, Ben Macklin and his children, Makenzie and Maguire; Erin and Josh Szymanski and their children, Garrett and Eliza; Joseph and Carley Macklin and their children, Josephine and Eloise; and Maria and June Grinnell and their children, Nehemiah and Tessa; Phil and his wife Mary Berkemeier and their children, Matthew and Jill Berkemeier and their children, Benjamin, Isabella, and Grace; Elizabeth and Nathan Calhoun and their children, Joshua and Lukas; James and Sarah Berkemeier and their children, Jacob, Kellen (deceased), Kaitlin, and Finnigan; Christi Berkemeier, Michael Berkemeier and his wife Leah and their children, James and Ella; Mary and Adam Ericson; Thomas Berkemeier, Julianna Berkemeier, and Paul Berkemeier; Paul and Marianne Berkemeier and their children, Paul and Tina Berkemeier and their children, Madelyn, Noah, and Noelle; Michael and Kellie Berkemeier and their children, Brady, Patrick, and Mara Grace; David and Ellie Berkemeier and their children, Caroline, Georgia, Brooke Elaina; and Danielle and Andrew Walsh and their children, Lucy and Ava; Tom Berkemeier and his wife MaryRose Steines and their chldren, Nicholas, Julia, and Karl; Elizabeth and her husband Ron Simurdiak and their children, Joseph, John, and Jenna; Joseph and Maria Berkemeier and their children, Elena, Joseph, John Paul, Anna, Justin, and Emma; John A. Berkemeier and his wife Linda and their children John and Analise; Steve and his wife Margarita Berkemeier and their children, Veronica, Cecilia, Stephen, Zachary, and Rebecca; sisters in law Mary Lienhart and Marie Konkel; and numerous nieces,nephews, and cousins throughout the U.S. and Poland.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years Francis B. Berkemeier and twelve siblings. Elizabeth was born on May 30, 1919 to Paul and Josephine Konkel who were Kashubian Polish immigrants. She worked as a "Rosie Riveter" at both Goodyear and Reynolds Spring Factory in Jackson during WWII. She was a longtime devoted member of St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church. She was a member of St. Monica Circle, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Fr. Coyle Society at Lumen Christi and Jackson Right to Life. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church on Monday, December 29th at 10:00 AM with Interment to follow at St. John's Catholic Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Desnoyer Funeral Home on Sunday, December 28th from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM with a Rosary at 6:30 PM. The family will also receive friends at St. Mary's Church on Monday from 9 to 10 AM.
In lieu of flowers contributions to St. Mary's Church, St. Mary's School, Lumen Christi High School, The Felician Sisters, Madonna University, Jackson Citizens for Life, St. Vincent dePaul Society or Birthline of Jackson.
