Eleanore Joan Langford
Eleanore "Ellie" Joan Langford, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 22nd, 2017 under the loving care of her daughter Julie and her husband John and the Hospice of Lenawee in Adrian, Michigan. She was 88 years young.
Eleanore was born to Rowley Cluett Chase and Gladys Porter Chase, June 10, 1929 in Pontiac, Michigan. She is preceded in her death by her parents, her husband Leslie Langford and her sister, Mary Porter Chase. Surviving Eleanore are her children: Janet Langford Gray, Jeannene Langford (Tom), Julie Langford Field (John), James Chase Langford (Steve), and Jon Langford (Helen). Also surviving her are grandchildren Scott Gray, Eric Shea Gray, Jenna Beehler (Tim), Julie Siri Aksland (Loren), Shannon Field (Layla), Summer Langford, and great grandchildren Sofie Bland, Jude Beehler and Hank Field.
Eleanore married the love of her life, Leslie Langford, on September 12, 1951. They were happily married for over 65 years raising five children, known as the "5J's", all having names that begin with J. The family started out in Pontiac, then moved to Battle Creek and finally to Jackson.
Eleanore generously gave her talent and time to: Chapel Hill Methodist Church (Battle Creek) as a Sunday school teacher, Riverside Elementary PTA (Battle Creek), Ella Sharp Park Museum, Member of Friends, volunteering in the gift shop and special Events (Jackson), Women's Club member (Jackson), Twilighters golf group (Jackson) and many more. Just some of Eleanore's interests: fashion, design, gardening, playing bridge, playing piano, golf, cooking, baking, and spending time at the family cabin.
Eleanore was a 1947 graduate of Pontiac High School. She attended Western Michigan University. Eleanore had a successful career in fashion clothing buyer for Robinson's department store (Battle Creek). She also worked for State Farm Insurance and Anna's Gifts in Jackson.
Eleanore is remembered for her loving smile and spirit, playful humor, keen intellect and generosity in heart and deed.
A Celebration of her life will be held at the Desnoyer Funeral Home on Saturday, January 20th, 2017 with Pastor Tim Beehler as the celebrant. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM with a service following at 1:00 pm. Eleanore will join Leslie at the Fort Custer National Cemetery, Battle Creek, Michigan. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.desnoyerfuneralhome.com.
