SMITH, EILEEN IRIS
Of Jackson, passed away on January 19, 2018 at the age of 81. Eileen's husband of 50 years, Duane, preceded her in death. She is survived by her children, Ann (Mike) Cochran of Conyers, GA, Dr. Charles (Lisa) Smith of Hummelstown, PA, Teresa (Stuart) Rosenberg of Canton, Michael Smith of Jackson, and Patricia Smith of Ann Arbor; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Eileen is also survived by her brother, Ed Hess, of Boston, MA.Born in Napoleon, Eileen graduated as valedictorian of her high school class. She married Duane Smith in 1955 and contributed her time and effort to church-based groups and community service organizations for many years. Eileen was famously known for her excellent cooking skills and was infamously known for failing to include at least one ingredient or preparation step on recipe cards, thus rendering it impossible for others to replicate the outcomes of her most coveted recipes. Despite multiple health challenges that brought pain and uncertainty in recent years, Eileen always maintained her sense of humor and resilience of spirit. We, her family, will seek to learn from this example.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Jackson on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at 10:00 AM. Fr. Richard Eberle O.S.F.S. will officiate the Funeral Mass. A private burial will take place at St. John's Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the church from 9:00 AM until the Mass begins.
