Edward George Faris
age 83, of Jackson, Michigan, was welcomed into the arms of his loving Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, February 15, 2019. He leaves behind his wife of 53 years Carol Ann Faris, 4 children and 3 sons-in-law, Dianne & Drew Collins, Mary & Tom Christoff, Daniel Faris, Paula & John Krueger, and 7 grandchildren. Ed was born on January 29, 1936 in Flint, Michigan to George & Mary (Sarrouh) Faris. One of six children, Ed was raised in a loyal, tight-knit family who were proud of their Lebanese heritage. He is predeceased by his brothers Joseph and Raymond, and his sister Josephine. He is survived by his sister Helen Burgess and brother Philip (wife Marie).
Ed loved to recount his younger days, which included working for the Grand Trunk Railroad, and proudly serving in the US Marines Corps (from 1956-1958), where he became a champion marksman. In 1964, he earned a Master's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Michigan. He celebrated graduation by taking his mother on her dream-trip to Lebanon to see relatives whom she had left behind 40 years earlier. That same year, he began working for McDonald Douglas Aircraft Corporation in St. Louis, Missouri, where he met the love of his life, Carol Ann Kostecki. They married on February 19, 1966. In 1968, the couple moved to Jackson, Michigan, where Ed began his 31 year career with Sparton Electronics Corporation. It was here that Ed & Carol set down roots and raised their four children. Most of all, Ed loved his Lord and taught his children to love God and to love his Word.
After retirement in 2001, he was happy to spend more time engaged in the many things he loved….wrestling with his grandkids & playing pool with them on his U of M pool table, enjoying the great outdoors by hunting & fishing, and puttering around his workshop. There was nothing broken around the house that Ed couldn't fix! Being a family man to the core, extended family vacations were the highlight of each year. Ed and Carol have enjoyed a long relationship with brothers and sisters in Morning Star Christian Community, and are members of Redeemer Lutheran Church.
The family will receive friends at the Desnoyer Funeral Home on Sunday, February 17 from 2:00-4:00 pm and 6:00-8:00 pm. A Service celebrating Ed's life will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, February 18, 2019 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 3637 Spring Arbor Rd., with visitation at the church from 9:00 – 10:00 am with Pastor Michael Geml. Interment will take place at Roseland Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Ed's honor to OPEN DOORS USA or BIRTHLINE of Jackson.
