McClear, Donald Edmund
88 years old, son of Mark and Anna (Young) McClear, born on August 18, 1934 passed away peacefully on Monday, September 5, 2022 under the comfort and care of his loving family and the wonderful staff of Henry Ford Hospice House. Don was a 1956 graduate of the University of Notre Dame and remained a faithful alumnus. "Go Fighting Irish" forever! Don was a retiree of Consumers Energy where he spent his years as an electrical engineer.
Don is survived by his devoted wife of 27 years, Elizabeth "Betsy" McClear, children Kathleen (Mike) Suggitt, Timothy (Melissa) McClear, Steven (Charlene) McClear, and Christian McClear (Go Blue!). Don was blessed with a bonus family, stepdaughters Cathy (Wallace) LaParl, Connie Wallace, Carol (Wallace) Hoch and stepson David (Tori) Wallace. Don was a proud grandfather to Travis McClear, Tyler McClear, Bailey (Karl) Day, Taryn McClear, Mark (Nina) Frattini, Joseph (Lorena) LaParl, April (Damian) Reynolds, Joshua Hoch, and Kiley Wallace (Nick Lemon). Don was also blessed with several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by his first wife Sally (Leeth) McClear, infant son Donald Timothy McClear, stepson Richard Wallace, and seven siblings.
A man of strong faith, Don was a member of St. Mary's Star of the Sea Church. He spent many years singing in the church choir and was gifted with a smooth tenor tone. His sense of humor, corn hole skills and acute attention to detail will forever be missed.
A kinder, gentler, gentleman will not be known. A man so loved; a life well lived. We miss you already.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2022 at 10:00 AM at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church with Father Tim Nelson officiating.
The family will receive friends at St. Mary's Church on Saturday, September 17 from 9:00 to 10:00 AM.
