Smith, Dick F.
89 of Jackson, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 7, 2022. He was born on June 7, 1932 in Waterloo, Iowa to Grant and Vera Smith. Dick graduated from East High School in Waterloo in 1951 and went on to attend Iowa State College where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. He served 4 years in the United States Army and 2 years in the Army Reserves.
Dick was a talented Electrical Engineer and was employed with Commonwealth and Associates. As a Project Engineer, he designed high voltage electrical transmission lines throughout the United States and retired from Commonwealth after 41 years of service.
An avid football and basketball fan, Dick closely followed Lumen Christi and Michigan State each season. He enjoyed his many years bowling in the Wednesday Night Mixed League at the Airport Lanes, golf and bridge club with his good friends. Dick was a patient and kind man who always had time to help out with projects, repairs or advice.
A loving and devoted husband and father, Dick will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Dick is survived by his wife of 59 years, Phyllis, and son Ben (Amy). In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two sisters Madeline Harting and Wilma Huffman.
A celebration of Dick's life will be held on Monday, February 14 at 10:30 AM at the Desnoyer Funeral Home with Father Tim Nelson as the Celebrant. Interment will follow at St. John's Catholic Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Desnoyer Funeral Home on Monday, February 14, before the service, from 9:30 to 10:30 AM.
