With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Debbie Hughes, who left this world on April 22, 2025, at the age of 72. Her departure was unexpected after a short illness, but her legacy of love and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

Debbie was born on August 1, 1952, in Chicago, IL, and spent her life pouring compassion into everything she did. She was the beloved wife of Michael Hughes, with whom she shared nearly 52 beautiful years of marriage. Together, they built a life filled with devotion, laughter, and unwavering support. She was a proud and loving mother to her daughters, Natalie Hughes and Melinda Turner, and son-in-law Nick Turner. One of her greatest joys was being "Omma" to her cherished grandchildren, Bodhi and Wren Turner. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dorothy and Herbert Block; sister, Susan Ebeling; and brother, Kevin Block. She is survived by her sister, Pat Frerkes along with many other family members and friends who will miss her dearly.

Those who knew Debbie will remember her as a woman who radiated warmth. She was kind, thoughtful, full of life, and always thinking of others before herself. Her presence brought comfort, her smile brought light, and her heart was a safe haven for those she loved.

According to her wishes, cremation has taken place.  The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2025 at 10:00 AM at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church with Father Tim Nelson officiating, with a gathering to follow at Commonwealth Commerce Center. We invite all who loved her to join us in honoring the beautiful life she lived.

The family will receive friends at the Church on Saturday, May 10 from 9:00 to 10:00 AM.

In lieu of sending flowers, contributions to St. Mary's Church would be appreciated.

She will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and always cherished.
