Courter (formerly Freitag-Zantop), Deborah "Crazy Grandma"
Age 59, of Jackson, formerly of Ann Arbor and Southgate, died on Friday, October 5th 2012 in her home. Debbie is preceded in death by her parents, Nancy and Paul; and brother, Edwin. Debbie is survived by her husband of four years, Bill; three daughters, Rebecca (Ron) Heemstra, Michele (Blaine) Biggerstaff, and Elizabeth (Rene) Galvan; her children through marriage, Mandy (Travis) McMurtrie, and Bryon (Haeli) Courter; siblings, Sue Philport, Paul Freitag, Karen Freitag, and Linda Freitag; nine grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Debbie found joy in her work as an LPN at Legacy Assisted Living and was passionate about ensuring that her residents were treated like family. She was a self-proclaimed "Crazy Grandma" who loved playing with and spoiling her grandkids. It wasn't unusual for her to challenge them to a game of basketball or run around with them in the front yard. She also enjoyed taking trips with her husband, Bill, and some of their recent adventures include cruises to Alaska and the Caribbean, and a cross-country train trip, as well as frequenting local breweries wherever they went.
A visitation will take place at Desnoyer Funeral Home on Monday, Oct. 8 from 4–8 PM with a Scripture Service at 7:00 PM.
Mass of the Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 9 at 10:30 AM at Queen of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church. Reverend Father Mathias Thelen will be the celebrant at the Mass.
