Genco, Deacon Vincent Carl
Passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, June 13, 2019 surrounded by his family. Vincent was born on June 1, 1935. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vincent and Mary (Comperchio) Genco and brothers, Sam and Leonard Genco. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Rose-Marie (Vassal) Genco. Vincent was also survived by his children Vincent (Joanne) Genco, Joseph (Kim) Genco, Joanne (Todd) Dennis, Andy (Jennifer) Genco, Deanna Genco, and 31 grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Vincent graduated from St. Mary's Star of the Sea High School in 1953. Vincent was the owner of Genco Boot Shop from 1967-1997. In his earlier years he was a very involved Boy Scout Leader and also was a member of the National Guard. Vincent enjoyed fishing, spending time with his dogs, and was very proud of his Italian heritage. He was ordained as a Deacon in the Roman Catholic Church in 1995 and served at St. Mary's Star of the Sea Parish. He was a fourth degree member of The Knights of Columbus. Vincent loved and was deeply loved by all those whose lives he touched. A special thanks to Shelley Looper for her kindness and care during Vincent's last days.
According to his wishes, Vincent has been cremated. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at 10:00 AM at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church with the Bishop of the Diocese of Lansing, the Most Reverend Earl Boyea and Fr. Tim Nelson as the celebrants.
The family will receive friends at the Church on Tuesday from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, www.woundedwarriorproject.org or to the Wilwin Lodge, www.wilwin.org .
