DANIEL LEO KUJAWA
89, of Vandercook Lake passed away peacefully with family at his side on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at Legends of Legacy Assisted Living Center in Jackson, MI. He was born in Detroit, MI on December 15, 1926 to Leo and Anna Pogorzelski Kujawa. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother Raymond Kujawa.
Dan was very proud of his Navy service during World War II in the Pacific Theater of Operations and in Washington, D.C. He returned to Jackson and worked as a machinist with Clark Equipment until his retirement in 1983. He and his wife, Joan Virt, were married in 1949 at St John's Church in Jackson, MI, and together they raised a son and four daughters. He was a 63 year member of American Legion Rose City Post #324, the Knights of Columbus, and a member of St Mary's Parish for over 60 years. He was a University of Michigan football season ticket holder since 1972, an avid Tigers fan, and took great pride in coaching and watching American Legion baseball.
He is survived by his wife Joan, son Michael Kujawa (Diana), and daughters Susan McGrain (Brian), Margaret Schafer (Dan), Mary Magiera, and Julie Heselschwerdt (Randy), Grandchildren Brian McGrain (Rion Hollenback), Angela Kujawa (Allen Ament), Anthony Kujawa, Amanda Kuhl (Justin), Andrea McGrain, Zack Pohl (Stefanie), Jessica Heselschwerdt, Patrick Magiera, Jacob Heselschwerdt (Ryan Ruggiero), Grant Heselschwerdt, and Kenny McGrain; Great-grandchildren Stella Pohl and Aria Ament. Other family members include his sister in-law Mary Shaughnessy (Tom), several nieces and cousins.
The family would like to especially thank the staff of Legends at Legacy Assisted Living Center for their compassionate and attentive care.
Dan is at the Desnoyer Funeral Home where a Prayer Service will be held on Wednesday, June 15 at 9:30 AM followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Star of The Sea Catholic Church at 10:00 AM with Father Tim Nelson and Father Bill Lugger as the celebrants.
The family will receive friends at the Desnoyer Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 14 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM with a Scripture Service at 7:30 PM
Those who wish may make memorial donations to the Alzheimer's Association.
