Constance Diana (McGill) Hobde, 93, was born in Jackson, MI on August 15, 1932, to Pearl and David McGill. She died on Sunday, June 21, 2026. She was preceded in death by her best friend and husband of 52 years, David D. Hobde; her brothers Thomas, Donald, Gerald, and John McGill; her brother-in-law Dennis L. Hobde; and her sister-in-laws Dorothy McGill, Sandra McGill, and Shirley Hobde.
Connie is survived by her daughter Heidi (Hobde) Dailey and son-in-law Michael J. Dailey of Chelsea, MI; beloved twin grandchildren Patrick M. Dailey of Chelsea and Connor D. Dailey (Hannah Lash) of Ann Arbor, MI; as well as generations of special and dear nieces and nephews, cousins, many dear friends, and her sister-in-law Ruth McGill.
Connie was a graduate of Jackson High School, Jackson Junior College; a retired Medical Transcriptionist; a 50+ year member of First United Methodist Church of Jackson; Life Member of the Junior Dorcas Society; and Rho Delta Phi Sorority—Jackson Chapter. She was a “professional volunteer” most of her adult life in the Jackson community. She served on the Boards of the PTA; Love, Inc: YWCA; JCC Alumni; Carnegie Friends of the Jackson District Library; Junior Dorcas; Rho Delta Phi. She also volunteered as a leader and co-leader in Girl Scouting; as a tutor for Adult Literacy and Project Success (children’s literacy); for Disabled Youth (pre-Lyle Torrant Center); United Way; Emergency Coalition, Jackson; Story Fest; Y-Center programs; JDL Book Cellar; Christmas Toy Shop and Charity Chairman for Junior Dorcas with the Salvation Army; Faith Haven Senior Care Center; NEA’s Read Across America programs; Church Sunday School (Bible School, Missions) and many other volunteer groups.
Connie loved the outdoors with swimming, picnicking, tennis, ice skating, sailing, and cross-country skiing as her favorites. Reading was another love. She was never without a book (or two) by her side.
Connie’s family would like to extend their gratitude and thanks to her family, friends, and dear neighbors for watching out for her in her last years, as well as the entire, wonderful staff at the Jackson County Medical Care Facility. They became like family to Connie and took wonderful care of her.
Connie has gifted her body (as did David) to the University of Michigan Anatomical Sciences Donation Program for medical research. In lieu of flowers, a contribution to your local library, or a literacy program of your choice, would have pleased Connie so much. No service or memorial is planned. Instead, please remember Connie (and carry her legacy forward) by living life in support of others in need as she did.
