Spaulding, Cecile "Ceal"
of Jackson passed away at home, surrounded by loved ones, on Monday, March 24, 2014. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Ken; six children, Deb (Albert) Ramirez of Lansing, Mike (Terri) Spaulding of Grand Rapids, Steve Spaulding of Sandford, Kathy Spaulding of Midland, Becky (Joe) Woloszyk of Hickory, NC, and Cindy (Brett) Meteyer of Haslett; 17 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Wanda Wallis of Kalamazoo; brothers Paul (Shirley) Wallis and Kai (Pat) Wallis, both of Reno, NV; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was born on December 18, 1937 in Sandwich, Illinois to the late Paul and Edna Wallis (nee Miller), and was raised in Allegan, Michigan. As a young woman in high school, she used her beautiful voice to praise the Lord as the song leader at daily Mass, accompanied by her sister, Wanda.
Ceal attended Western Michigan University as a music major, where she met and fell in love with Ken, whom she married on August 2, 1958. Ken and Ceal raised six children, imparting to each their intense love of Jesus Christ. Faith was of utmost importance to Ceal, and she remained involved at both Queen's Parish and at St. Patrick's in Largo, Florida throughout her life. Her family was also of tremendous importance to her; nothing pleased her more than to be surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She incorporated her love of music with her love of children by teaching at Queen's School for many years before she began working for Jackson Public Schools.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 29 at 1:00 PM at Queen of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church with Father Timothy MacDonald officiating. Private interment at St. John's Catholic Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Desnoyer Funeral Home on Friday from 2:00 until 4:00 PM and 6:00 until 8:00 PM with a Rosary Service at 7:00 PM. The family will also receive friends at the church on Saturday from noon until the time of service.
