Carol passed on Friday, February 27, 2026 due to pneumonia-induced dementia, which she was troubled with the past two years. She was the solid rock in her 62 year marriage to Gerald Lefere, serving as the most encouraging and generous golf widow that Jackson has ever seen.
She was born in North Adams, Michigan to her parents Gerald and Birdell Roberts who, along with her older brothers Tom and David Roberts, preceded her in death. Her beloved twin Chloe Smith and their younger sisters Kathleen Jabour and C. Suzy Roberts will continue to carry fond memories of their childhood at the North Adams farm. A proud cheerleader, she graduated from North Adams High School and attended Adrian College.
Carol met the love of her life one night at the Lodge on Clark Lake. Married in 1964, she moved to Jackson, expanding her family to include numerous in-laws, nieces, and nephews. Carol and Jerry’s exemplary marriage produced four children: Scott (Maryjane), Jerry, Tony (Julie), and Kristen (Sean Johnstone). True to her cheerleader roots, she unselfishly supported her entire family; from golf courses to basketball courts, stages to fields, she loved nothing more than to see her loved ones succeed. After beating cancer, she actively encouraged others facing similar health challenges. She avidly read, sewed, and pursued her Catholic faith; she loved the Detroit Tigers, the Fighting Irish, Young and the Restless, her friends, and travelling with family. Later in life, she cherished adding “Grammy” to her titles with the addition of her four grandchildren, Alixandra (Brandon Ladd) and Nicholas Lefere, and Jack and Jessica Johnstone. Great grandsons Declan and Rylan Ladd were a beautiful bonus in her last years.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, March 4, 2026 at the Queen of the Miraculous Medal Church in Jackson at 10:30 A.M with Fr. Timothy MacDonald officiating. Cremation will follow the Funeral Mass. The family will receive visitors for one hour at the church before the Mass begins.
Remembrance donations to Queens Church or Lumen Christi High School would be appreciated.
The family wishes to acknowledge the compassionate care provided by the Jacqueline House Assisted Living staff here in Jackson. The staff of the Optimal Care Hospice Group were also a great comfort. We deeply appreciate their supportive care.
