Carmen Garcia

Carmen Garcia, a true original and one of a kind, peacefully departed this life on March 29, 2026. Born on March 2, 1952, to Maria and Leobardo Garcia, Carmen built a life defined by her independence and tenacity. She graduated from Jackson High in 1971 and later moved to Lansing to pursue her passions, becoming a licensed cosmetologist. She later earned degrees in paralegal studies & labor relations. Carmen dedicated many years of professional service before retiring from the Board of Water and Light. After retirement, she continued to pursue her passions including photography and volunteering for the American Red Cross.

Carmen’s greatest accomplishment and deepest joy was being a mother to her son, David (Majid) Issa. Her unconditional love, guidance, and support created the foundation for his wonderful upbringing. In addition to her son, she is survived by her siblings: Raul Garcia (Grace), Berta Garcia, David Garcia (Linda), Alice Jones (Randy), Teresa Blom (Harold), Maria Garcia-Santana (Miguel), Evalia Blissick (Tom), Baldomera Garcia (Renne), and Margarita Berkemeier (Steve).

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 707 N Waterloo Ave, Jackson on Tuesday, April 7, 2026 at 11:00 AM with Fr. Randy Koenigsknecht officiating. Cremation will follow the Funeral Mass.  

The family will receive friends at the Desnoyer Funeral Home, 204 N. Blackstone St., Jackson on Monday, April 6 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM with a Rosary Service at 6:00 PM.  The family will also receive friends at the Church on Tuesday, April 7 from 10:00 to 11:00 AM.
