C. Donavon Carl
Of Clarklake , Michigan passed from this life on April 24, 2010. He was the third child of Clarence O. and Esther V. (Fairchild) Carl born on December 4, 1937 in Wells County , Indiana . Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Maxine Stoffel. Surviving is his wife of 53 years, Linda G. (Mossburg); three sons: Mitchell D., Fishers, IN, Courtney S. (Laurie), Jackson, MI, and Patrick D. (C. Joy), Fishers, IN; six grandchildren: Joshua (Laura), Danielle, Jonah, Bethany, Jordan and Anna; two brothers: Norman and Garry (Sue); brother-in-law Harry Stoffel; several nieces and nephews. Donavon graduated in 1955 from East Union Center High School , Wells County , Indiana where he played on the varsity basketball team all four years of high school. He received a basketball scholarship from University of Michigan and was in the school of education for those two years before transferring to Purdue University where he received his Civil Engineering degree in 1961. After living and working in Indianapolis and Cincinnati , he and his family moved to the Jackson , MI area in 1966 and was employed at Commonwealth Associates. In 1971, he formed Carl Engineers Inc., a construction and design-build company. Later, he founded Carl Development Group, a real estate development company. Donavon was a past member and served as president of Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC), a past member of Rotary International for many years, served as president to the Jackson Rotary Club and was District Governor for Rotary District 6360 in 1998-99. He and two district governors from Germany and India were responsible for a major housing project in India . He was a Paul Harris Fellow and a major donor to the Rotary Foundation. Donavon was also a member of American Society of Civil Engineers and National Society of Professional Engineers. He attended Cornerstone Community Church in Brooklyn , MI . Viewing will be held at Desnoyer Funeral Home in Jackson on Tuesday April 27th from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 6:00 to 8:00 pm. The funeral service will be held at Cornerstone Community Church in Brooklyn , Michigan on Wednesday April 28th at 11:00 am with a second visitation held one hour prior to the funeral service. Burial will be after the funeral service at 3:30 pm in Hoverstock Cemetery in Zanesville , Indiana . An extended graveside service will be held for family and friends from the Indiana community in which he was raised.
