Of Jackson went to be with the Lord Tuesday December 29, 2009 age 91 years. Survived by five daughters and two sons; Joanne (Del) Thomas, Linda (Patrick) Burke all of Jackson. Ellen (Peter) Davis of Ghent, NY, Christy (Alan) Edmonds of Overland Park, KS, Mary (Dr. Steven) Fox of Perrysburg, OH, Mark (Nannette) Sponsler of Parma and Phil (Mary) Sponsler of Jackson. 23 grandchildren; James (Marie) Thomas, Julie (Rocky) Beckett, Timothy (Shellie) Thomas, Theresa (Cornell) Goodreau, Susan (Todd) Gallagher, Jason Burke, Dana Schmitt, Darren (Analyn) O'Leary, Lucas (Erika), Jacob (Krystin), Ellen, Kirsten and Alexander Sponsler. David, Andrew (Kara) and Scott (Tereza) Edmonds. Erin (Jed) Radebaugh, Meghan and Barbara Fox. Katie, Jackie, Emily and Cassidy Sponsler. 21 great grandchildren; David and Michael Thomas, Aaron and Elizabeth Beckett, Ginger Mansfield, Indigo and Emmeline Ensign, Griffin and Gray Goodreau, Ryan, Shaylyn and Patrick Gallagher, Willow, Lily and Martin Schmitt, Elliana O'Leary, Stella and Hartman Sponsler, Brandon and Keller Radebaugh and Adella Muir. One brother; Thomas (Jean) Powers and one sister in law Mary Hayner. Numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her husband of 50 years James, granddaughter Angel Burke, Brothers Robert, James, Donald and John Powers and sister Ann Ordway. After her husband's retirement Barbara and James traveled and spent winters in Jekyll Island Georgia. She enjoyed golf, quilt making, family gatherings, reading, sewing, crocheting and knitting. She attended her grandchildren's sporting and school events. Barbara enjoyed card games and always won at cribbage. She was known for her delicious apple pie. She treasured all of the friends that she had throughout the years. Barbara was a lifelong member of St. John's Parish and was active in the Altar Society where she made vestments and Altar Cloths for many years. Her Catholic Faith and her family were the passions in her life. The family would like to thank the staff at Arbor Woods Assisted Living Center for the care and compassion they provided to their mother. Mrs. Sponsler is at the Desnoyer Funeral Home where a Prayer Service will be held Tuesday, January 5, 2010 9:30 AM followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church 10:00 AM. Interment St. John's Cemetery. The Rev. James Shaver officiating.
In lieu of flowers contributions to St. John's Church would be appreciated.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 2 to 8 PM. Rosary Monday 6 PM.
