JORS, BARBARA JEAN

of Jackson, Michigan passed away on Pentecost Sunday, June 4, 2017 at the age of 88 years. Barbara was born April 19, 1929 in Rockford, Illinois to Fay and Gertrude (Dunn) Betts. Barbara graduated from Marquette University School of Dentistry in 1949 with a degree in Dental Hygiene. After graduation, she worked for a dentist in Rockford, Illinois for one year before taking a job with the US Government cleaning children's teeth and setting up fluoride treatment programs in both urban and rural areas throughout Illinois and Michigan. While working in the Jackson area, Barbara met her husband, Robert Jors, at the Clark Lake Park. After their marriage, Barbara continued to work in the dentistry field for several years. As their family grew, Barbara stopped working in order to raise and care for their six children. Once their children were grown and on their own, Barbara went back to work as a dental hygienist, a profession she truly enjoyed, for several more years.
Barbara was active in Women's Club and various Bridge groups. She loved to golf, garden, needlepoint, knit, sew, and bake. She will be remembered as a wonderful and loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, friend, and woman. Her Catholic faith was important to her and provided her everlasting strength and comfort.

Her husband of 57 years, Robert Nathan Jors, preceded her in death on November 30, 2010. Barbara is survived by her six children; Patrick, Theresa (Mark) Cavanaugh, Daniel, Michael (Judy, step children Michelle, Jeff and Nicole) Robert (Dawn, step son Michael) and William. She is also survived by six grandchildren; Patrick (Meredith) Jors, Charles (Shelby) Jors, Karin Jors, Samantha Cavanaugh, Kevin Cavanaugh and Amanda Jors. Great grandchildren include Halle, Christopher, Angela, Jonathan, Brolin and Josephine Jors.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church on Wednesday, June 7 at 10:00 AM with Father Tim Nelson as the celebrant. Interment will take place at Mt. Evergreen Cemetery in Jackson at 2:00 PM.

The family will receive friends at St. Mary Catholic Church, before the Mass, from 9:30 to 10:00 AM.
