Athena M. Driscoll-Bettendorf

DRISCOLL-BETTENDORF, ATHENA M.

Of Jackson passed away under the loving care of her family and the staff at Allegiance Hospice Home on Friday, May 27, 2011. Athena was born on February 25,1923 in Benton Harbor, Michigan to Evelyn and Nicolas Panagakos. Athena a wife, mother, and homemaker is survived by her children; Robert L. (Linda) Driscoll, J.R. Driscoll, Cheryl (John) Washburn, Mark J. (Amy) Driscoll and John P. Driscoll. 11 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren. Step son Gerald (Joyce) Bettendorf, Step daughters Joyce Lee and Dian (Glen Jr.) Wellman. Two sisters; Joan Smith and Elaine (John) Whisler. Brother in law Al Vasta and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her first husband James C. Driscoll, her second husband Bernard J. Bettendorf, son Daniel R. Driscoll, step son Bob Bettendorf, brother Theodore Panagakos and sister Bonnie Vasta. On her sojourn through life she touched many people with her spirit and generosity. She was a fabulous creator of baked goods, especially pies. An ardent and knowledgeable sports fan and bowled through her 87th birthday. She never missed sending a birthday card and she truly was loved by many far and wide. Athena is at the Desnoyer Funeral Home where a prayer service will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 AM followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church 10:30 AM. Interment St. John's Cemetery. The Rev. Father James Shaver officiating.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at the Allegiance Hospice Home for the loving care they provided.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM. Rosary Tuesday 6:30 PM.
