Schafer, Arthur W.

Of Jackson, passed away on Saturday, April 14, 2012 at the age of 92 years. Art was born March 2, 1920 in Fowler, MI to Joseph & Mary Schafer. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Josephine A. (Divish) Schafer, who he married on June 1, 1946 at St. Mary's Cathedral. He is also survived by one brother, Eugene (Pat) Schafer; four sisters, Alice Burdette, Mary Hagerman, Joyce Essenberg, Laura Divish; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters.

Arthur was an Army/Air Force Veteran of World War II, was superintendent for the Mutual of Omaha Insurance Co. In Dearborn, MI and later worked for 20 years at Tansky Motors as a salesman. He was also a member of AARP Chapter #2958 and the Jacksonians. He enjoyed golf and achieved 4 holes-in-one.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 AM at Queen of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church. Reverend Father Mathias Thelen will be the celebrant at the Mass. Interment will take place at St. John's Catholic Cemetery.

Mr. Schafer is at the Desnoyer Funeral Home where the family will receive friends on Tuesday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM and at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 to 10:30 AM. A Vigil Service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 7:00 PM.
