Kuhl, Arthur John
Passed away at the age of 93. John was born into this life on July 2, 1929 and entered in eternal life with Jesus on Monday, May 8, 2023.
Arthur was known by his middle name John. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary of 68 years; his parents, Arthur and Margaret Kuhl; brothers, Bob, Bill and Jim Kuhl; and one sister, Phyllis Olivia. John is survived by four daughters, Margie (Tom) Galardi, Katy (Mo) Page, Cindy (Mark) Miller, and Susie (James) Everest; one son John Kuhl; 13 grandchildren, Mickey Zippay, Kellie (Michael) Berkemeier, Jackie (Chad ) Gregory, Maury (Chelsea) Page, Mark Miller (Sarah), John Miller (Tina), Mandy (Dan) Weaver, Jason Kuhl (Kelly), Jordy Kuhl, Korey Kuhl, Jennifer Wright, Heather Lowder and Josh Lowder; 19 great grandchildren, Brady, Patrick, Mara, Audrey Berkemeier, Cade, and Brodie Gregory, Nolan and Ryleigh Page, Brannon, Brynn and Braelynn Miller, Leyla and Logan Miller, Coye, Zoey and Tess Weaver, Milo Kuhl, and Levi and Emma Wright; brother, Dick Kuhl (Shirley); sister, Mary Helen Kwaske; sisters-in-law, Joan and Mary Kuhl; and Uncle John to numerous nephews and nieces.
John was born in Jackson, Michigan and attended St. Mary's High School, graduating in 1947. John served in the Army during the Korean War from 1951-1953. When he came home from serving his country he resumed working for the Homade Food Market in downtown Jackson, as a meat cutter and eventually the meat department manager for 21 years, it was there that he met his wife Mary.
John spent the next 40 years working in downtown Jackson as a meat cutter and owner of Kuhl's Meat Market and Kuhl's Bell Tower, working along with Mary , his children and many of his grandchildren. He built a family business and he was very proud of his family working by his side.
He loved to entertain, often playing his harmonica or ukulele/guitar during the busy lunch hours at the Bell Tower. In the 1960s John and his children entertained as The Singing Kuhl's, performing at venues such as the Michigan Theatre, Jackson County Fairgrounds and many other events. John taught his children and grandchildren " He's Got The Whole World In His Hands, it was one of his favorites!
John loved sports, especially Notre Dame football, visiting the campus for the first time just a few years ago, but most of all attending the sporting events of his grandchildren and great grandchildren!
He took pride in serving his downtown customers for over 60 years, he knew his customers and they knew him! Mary his beloved wife left him 7 months ago, John once said, " When you saw John you saw Mary, and when you saw Mary you saw John" !
Our hearts are broken, but we have peace that they walk hand in hand eternally with the Lord.
According to his wishes, cremation has taken place. John was a life long member of St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church where the Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at 10:00 AM with Father Tim Nelson officiating.
The family will receive friends at St. Mary's Church on Tuesday, May 16 from 9:00 to 10:00 AM.
Instead of sending flowers, contributions to St. Mary's School Education Fund or Henry Ford Hospice would be appreciated.
