Arthur “Art” Keegan Morrissey passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at the age of 90. Born on April 16, 1936, in Jackson, Michigan, he was the son of the late Wilfred and Lucielle Morrissey. In addition to his parents, Art was preceded in death by his brother, James, and his sisters, Mary Ellen Fedor and Marjorie Cochran.
Art is survived by his children, Steve, Robert (Kathleen), and Michael (Lynda), his grandchildren, Michelle (Dustin) Davis, Amber (Travis) Harman, and Keegan Morrissey and his sister, Patricia Tumey.
Art attended Queen of the Miraculous Medal School and St. Mary High School in Jackson, where his lifelong passion for athleticism blossomed. A standout athlete in football, basketball, and baseball, he set the St. Mary’s High School Celts all-time basketball scoring record in 1954. However, it was on the baseball diamond where Art truly shined. After playing shortstop for most of his high school career, his coach moved him to the mound in his senior year. In his pitching debut against the Lansing Blues, Art threw a shutout, propelling the Celts to a flying start in the Southern Michigan Catholic League.
He went on to attend Western Michigan University, earning a Bachelor of Business Administration. Art continued his baseball career as a pitcher for the Western Michigan Broncos, helping the team win the NCAA District Championship and advance to the College World Series, where he was immensely proud of his victory over Clemson.
After University, Art married Carol (Hammond) and moved to Racine, Wisconsin to work for S. C. Johnson & Son. In Racine, his love for sports never waned, he coached and played as the "Old Man" on the S.C. Johnson intramural basketball team and continued honing his skills on the golf course.
The family relocated to Toronto, Ontario, in 1981 where they successfully turned a struggling parish bulletin publishing company into a thriving business. Art retired in the early 1990s, to Naples Florida. This allowed more time on the golf course to extract a few dollars from anyone willing to wager with him. He enjoyed playing with his buddies in many club tournaments, putting their names on the top of the leader board.
An interment service at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a contribution to your favorite charity or planting a memorial tree.
