SUTTON, ANTHONY "TONY" THOMAS
of Jackson, MI passed away on Feb 14, 2017, age 74. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Kathie Sutton (nee Frankowski), his sister-in-law, Aimee (Wayne) Robinson, and many nieces and nephews: Theresa Sutton, Patricia (Dave) Sutton-Fordyce, Peter (Candice) Sutton, Mary (Sutton) Breijak, Duane Breijak, Alex Breijak, Amy Breijak, Andrea (Craig) Christianson, Danielle Robinson, and Brian (Morgan) Robinson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Linwood Sutton Sr. and Virginia Marie (Sauerbrunn) Sutton, his brother Raymond (Phyllis) Linwood Sutton Jr. M.D., nieces Carolyn Sutton-Myers, Christine Sutton-Burns.
Tony attended Salesian High School, Detroit, Catholic University, and Wayne State University where he received his Master's Degree. He was a beloved teacher at Lumen Christi High School, Jackson from 1968 to 1987, and Western High School, Parma from 1987 to 2007 where he taught English and Senior Transitions. He was a strong advocate for his students and led many extracurricular activities such as Academic bowl, Drama, National Honor Society. He was an avid life-long learner with wide interests in archeology, history, art, religion, ancient languages. He had an extensive toy soldier collection. Tony was Renaissance man. He was an accomplished artist who shared his writing, enameling, sculpture, painting, printmaking, jewelry making, drawing, miniatures and diorama making in a variety of venues. He was a loving husband, and wonderful uncle and friend who will be sorely missed.
Mass of Christian Burial will be officiated by Father Timothy MacDonald at Our Lady of Fatima Parish, 913 Napoleon Road, Michigan Center, MI 49254 on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends at the church from 10-11 a.m. Memorial donations in lieu of flowers are suggested to Our Lady of Fatima Parish www.fatimaparish.net or Catholic Charities of Jackson, Hillsdale, and Lenawee Counties, 3425 Francis Street, Jackson, MI 49203, http://www.catholiccharitiesjlhc.org/
