Albright, Anne Patrice
Age 77, passed away at home under the loving care of her family and Allegiance Hospice on May 31, 2011. Anne was born on October 26, 1933, in Manistique, Michigan, to John and Anna Macrellis. She grew up in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, and graduated from Loretto High School, and then attended and graduated, as a registered nurse, from Mercy Central School of Nursing in Bay City, Michigan. She married William Albright, an Air Force officer stationed at Kinross Air Force Base, Sault Ste. Marie on August 31, 1957, at a solemn high mass at St. Mary's Church, and he survives. Anne is also survived by two sons, Michael Albright of Jackson, Michigan, and Matthew (Julie) Albright and grandchildren Katie and Andrew of Comstock Park, Michigan; brother Michael (Sue) Macrellis of Jackson, Michigan; older sisters Mary Reinhart and Helen Carriere of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan; brothers and sisters-in-law Patrick and Etta Albright of Cresson, Pennsylvania, and Paul and Vicky Baran of Patton, Pennsylvania, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister Beatrice (Ray) Caspary of Wilmington, North Carolina, and brother and sister-in-law Paul and Joanne Hoover of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. After obtaining her BS and Master's degrees from Michigan State University, Anne worked as an associate professor in the nursing department at Jackson Community College. After retirement, she was honored by having a nursing department classroom dedicated with her name. Anne was a member of the American Association of University Women, life member of the National and Michigan Education Associations, and served on committees at Queen of the Miraculous Medal Church. Her proud Greek heritage was reflected in her gourmet cooking that made every holiday special. Prior to her illness, she ran 5k and 10k races, always doing well in her age group. She loved all animals and supported several animal rights groups. Her favorite animals were her two cats, Stan and Ollie. She and her husband visited Europe several times, as well as Greece, Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands, Mexico, several Caribbean islands, and also participated in many elder hostels in the United States. Several enjoyable vacations were spent with special friends, Bob and Carol Deaver, in Palm Springs and Key West. But, by far, her most rewarding times were spoiling her two grandchildren, Katie and Andrew. She exposed them to many entertaining and educational experiences, especially Michigan State's Grandparent University, and at the family cottage on Lake Leelanau. Her nursing colleagues and students often referred to her as a "class act". We will all miss sharing a bottle of a good red with her, and her infectious giggles.
The Family will greet friends at the Desnoyer Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 7 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM with a Vigil Service at 7 PM.
