78, of Pleasant Lake and formerly of Taylor, passed away on Wednesday, July 5th, 2017 at his home on the lake surrounded by his children after a long, very brave battle with prostate cancer. Al's devoted family and very dear friends took care of him at home for several months. Al was born Feb 5th, 1939 to the late Carl and Ruth Dicks in Detroit, Mi. He is survived by three adoring children, Janice Ranck, Scott Dicks, and Karen Egolf; ten cherished grandchildren, Jeremy and Jason Dicks, Jennifer Patterson, Bill and Shelby Egolf, Danielle and Samantha Dicks, Lindsay, Tommy and Kenny Ranck; and five precious great grandchildren, Aidan, Ashli Taylor Lynn, Seth, Jacob, and Caroline Ann. He was preceded in death by his wife Carol and his son, Michael "Mick". He was a United States Marine Veteran. Al, a dedicated and passionate husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, who placed his family above all things was deeply and completely loved, and will be sorely missed.

Visitation is at the Desnoyer Funeral Home, 204 North Blackstone where the family will receive friends on Friday, July 7th, 2017 from 2:00 through 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 8th at 11:00 a.m. (following a 10:00 a.m. visitation) at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 3637 Spring Arbor Road with Pastor Michael A. Geml presiding. A luncheon will immediately follow the service. Private internment will take place at Grand Lawn Cemetery in Detroit.

The family encourages memorial contributions be made to Redeemer Lutheran Church or Great Lakes Caring Hospice.
