Alban Russell Carney

Of Tunkhannock, Pennsylvania passed away Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at the age of 89, in the care of Hospice. Russell is survived by his wife of 70 years, Joan; brother Robert (Barbara) Carney; sons Russell (Sherry) Carney, Gary (Barbara) Carney, Dale (Kim) Carney; his grandchildren, Jason (Nicole) Carney, Justin (Tara) Carney, Nathan (Stacy) Carney, Jessica (Mark) Buckley, Brandon (Katarina) Carney, Kelsey (Connor) Kirkpatirck, Ashley (Jason) Jahn; and 17 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alban K. Carney and Elizabeth (Honeywell) Carney.

He was born on February 18, 1935 in Tunkhannock, Pennsylvania. Russell graduated from Tunkhannock High School in 1953. Upon graduation he took over the operation of the family farm; while running the farm he also drove truck and was a heavy machine operator. In 1976 he took a job with the Department of Agriculture for the State of Pennsylvania and retired after 28 years of service. Russell loved driving the Pennsylvania highway and researching Pennsylvania history, woodworking, making toys for the grandchildren, reading, mowing the lawn, and spending time with family and friends.

There will be a Celebration of Life in Jackson, Michigan on Saturday, July 27th at Vista Grande Villa at 1:00 pm. A graveside service will be held at Sunnyside Cemetery, in Tunkhannock, PA, that date is yet to be determined.
