Michner, W. Joe
Of Jackson, MI, passed away at sunrise in his daughter’s arms on Sunday, July 7, 2013, after a brief struggle with cancer, at the age of 71. He was born on April 14, 1942 to Walter and Marie Michner. He is survived by his loving sons, Jim (Karen) Michner of Holland, MI, Andy (Lisa) Michner of Lutz, FL, daughter Stevi (Jose) Michner-Azurdia of San Francisco, CA , and step-son Tony (Renee) DeKroub of Pinckney, MI. Joe is also survived by his grandchildren, the light of his life, Christopher (Colleen) Michner, Sarah Michner, and Rachel Michner; great-grandchild, Penelope Michner; his sisters, Suzanne (Mike) Hamilton and Cammie (Mike) Cavanaugh and step mother, Dorothy Michner. Joe was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jim Michner.
Joe was president of Michner Plating Company and various other companies throughout Jackson, was a former Indy and Midget car owner and was involved in multiple racing endeavors. Joe was the founding member and president of Wheels of Thunder. He had a passion for racing, riding his Harley and spending time with his family.
Mr. Michner is at the Desnoyer Funeral Home where a prayer service will be held on Thursday at 1:30 PM followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at Queen of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church Thursday 2:00 PM with Reverend Father James Shaver as the celebrant. Interment will take place at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Desnoyer Funeral Home on Tuesday and Wednesday from 4 to 8 PM with a Rosary Service Wednesday at 6 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or to Allegiance Hospice.
